Subject: winsock.dll for windows 4 wrkgrps
Currently I'm trying to install Mosaic in a Windows for Workgroups 3.11 enviornment and I have not been successful. I'm using the Microsoft DOS TCP/IP 1.0a protocol with winsock.dll installed. Whenever I bring up Mosaic and try to connect to an http site I get the error message "Failed DNS Lookup" or get thrown out to DOS. I know for a fact that DNS is up and running. Can someone tell me if there is a current version of the winsock.dll file that I should be using and if there is, where can I get it. Pleas
e feel also let me know if you think that my problem is something other than my winsock.dll file.
The two versions that I tried are dated:6/18/93 and 2/2/94

Subject: Recs for GOOD MAIL PROGRAM
Can someone please recommend a good PC mail reader program, one that has all
the perks of Eudora without the bugs? I'm using a SLIP account with
Windows 3.1 and Trumpet Winsock. Eudora has been trashing my letters before I
get to read them. QVTWinsock is too stripped down. I need to be able to
import text, and ideally, filter incoming mail into different mailboxes. But
any improvement over the abovementioned would be greatly appreciated. Please
write or post. Thanks!

I received a response telling me that a Winsock application will automatically activate the TCPMAN. But how does Winsock TCPMAN know which apps to start for?
Thanks for any advice.

I have a similar configuration, but I don't know how to get the Winsock
stuff to report the speed. I know how to get it when running KA9Q in DOS,
but who do you know what speed things are running at when using Winsock?

You might want to try WinPMail, otherwise known as Pegasus Mail. It isn't
perfect, but it has mail filtering, which saves me a lot of time. The setup
is very easy, too. You can find it at risc.ua.edu in /pub/network/pegasus.

Western Digital has released a special driver that fixes this problem and improves the performance of their newer drives by taking advantage of some of their special features. I think I saw it on CICA or WUArchive. I'll repost if I see it again. Otherwise you could call WD and probably get it.
I thought I grabbed it to put it on some local BBSs. I may have it on my machine at home. E-mail me if you want me to UUENCODE it and e-mail it to you if I indeed have it.
